Description

Learn Spanish, French, Italian, German, and many more languages with Babbel. Developed by a team of language learning experts, Babbel has helped millions of people speak a new language with confidence. THE BABBEL METHOD Here’s what makes Babbel more effective than any other language learning app: 1. Confidence — Our goal is to get you speaking from your very first lesson. And our elegantly designed courses give you the confidence to get there. We teach you how to engage in practical, everyday conversations, making it easier for you to have authentic experiences in your new language. 2. Comprehension — Our lessons immerse you in relevant culture and real-life conversations. We want you to really take in the language, not just memorize useless phrases. And we provide helpful hints in English (or your native language) to make your new language more relatable. 3. Retention — We know you’re busy. That’s why our lessons are short but sweet: about 10-15 minutes, and designed to send your new language straight to long-term memory. We regularly refresh your memory with our dynamic review sessions, which target areas where you need improvement most. Finally, we make sure you really grasp what you’re learning by bringing it back later in a new context. So far I am very happy with this app. I am learning Spanish to better communicate with some coworkers and they are already impressed after only a few lessons. I’m a hands on learner so this app is perfect with me by making me say the words correctly as well as the matching games

Seems like there are some bugs in this app and it’s in the beginning stages. I was ready to give up already because I couldn’t get through the part where you have to repeat what the speaker says. There is no instruction to help you out at the beginning. Why do I have to hit the speaker to make it speak the first time? And after it speaks do I just say the word or do I hit the microphone? If I hit the microphone it says I’m wrong before I can even speak. If I don’t hit the microphone nothing happens. Took me a while to figure out I have to hold down the microphone. Also why isn’t there an option for someone who already knows some? I hate starting at the basics. You should be able to take a placement test. I’m gonna keep plugging away to see if this app gets more Interesting while I also continue on duolingo. Really hoping I can pick up the language faster that way.

I’ve only used Babbel briefly and I am already not impressed. You can’t possibly speak a language fluently in as little as they claim. I have not navigated the entire app but it seemed pretty clear than in order to progress to level 2 or course 2, payment is required...?! Already? Lol Yes, I see how babbel can get you going with some very basic conversations but do you really know what each word means? When learning a new language, you need to start from the deep down basics, otherwise you’ll never truly know whether your using the correct form of each word, plural, singular, present, past, formal, informal. About the only thing I like babbel for is the pronunciation but you can easily just google translate phrases for free if that’s the case. There’s a REASON Babel is NOT “editors choice” on the App Store. Please do your shopping around before paying their ridiculous prices. THERE ARE BETTER LANGUAGE LEANRING APPS OUT THERE.

Took 2 years of German 35 years ago. This is a great refresher and progresses the same as I remember learning it. Makes it very comfortable to use. Lacks 5 stars due to some problems with not being able to type in correct answers in some cases where the ezett or double s character is required. At least I know I know the correct answer even if I can’t type it in.

So I wanted to learn French and Spanish, so I started looking for apps to help me learn them. Saw a bunch of ads for Babbel, and thought I’d give it a try. Being a college student and not wanting to pay to learn a language, I was looking for something to teach me these languages for free. Imagine my horror when I opened this app and learned how to say hello and how are you in these two languages, then being told I need to buy a subscription. And to top it off, you can only learn one language at a time. I don’t have the money to pay for a subscription to anything, so I started looking for alternatives. Found a great alternative in Duolingo. If you’re looking for a free app that can teach you multiple languages at once, download that, not this. If it weren’t for the subscription, I’d definitely use this app. Because I really need to learn these two languages.
  • Great App, Voice Recognition not so much

I love the app, the courses and the reviews are a great tool to remember and practice. However, the voice recognition not so great. I know some words I pronounce are my fault (learning French), but sometimes I press the button to speak and it stops before I can even say something. And on the practices/reviews, when I have to press and hold (for iPhone), sometimes it doesn’t recognize anyone speaking. Overall, a great app.
