Built using feedback from education experts and our customers, the Practice Pack program includes 5 Pre-reader, and 12 Learn to Read packs that include workbooks, stickers, storybooks, and in the first Pre-reader pack, flashcards that are sent to the home, monthly. Users can customize how often they receive these shipments through their account dashboard to tailor the pacing to each family’s needs. Created in conjunction with the App, the Practice Packs allow children to engage in different modalities of learning, review the skills they’ve gained in the App, and practice hands-on skills—like writing and tracing—that can’t be mastered in a digital setting. The result is an immersive program of learning experiences that keeps kids highly engaged in learning to read.

  • Update no longer loads

If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it. The new update is fine — until it stops loading any modules. I uninstalled and reinstalled, logged out and logged back in, restarted my device... nothing works. You know what’s better than new “fancy” graphics? An app that works.
  • Want the Old App Back

I’m very disappointed with this new app. My children were making so much progress with the old app and how it corresponded so we’ll with the workbooks. The current app does not load up most days and when it does it’s just not organized as well as the old one. The app has been useless the past few weeks since it won’t even fully load up for us to use it. When working is an overall good app and it’s cute. I just wish it kept some of the features and progression as the old one.

We’ve been having a blast with the Hooked on Phonics App as my 4.5 yr old is turning into a reader during quarantine and it’s so fun to watch. He doesn’t get much screen time in general and he has been able to navigate this App on his own. He’s getting more and more confident in reading independently as he has crossed into the Learn to Read section. He also loves certain games, especially the one with the bird eggs. His 2 yr old brother likes to watch over his shoulder as he plays and is singing songs and reciting the words to favorite ebooks too. We just started getting workbooks shipped monthly and these are awesome for hands on activity and the storybooks are fun for him to carry around and read to anyone who will listen, our dog included.

  • New update to the app

It’s hard to follow. One of my children was doing better on the other version. This one is hard to use for her and it’s frustrating. Plus the other version followed the regular books where this one does not. I wouldn’t keep this app if my children didn’t try so hard. Please reconsider this new version.

We have been using the hooked on phonics books for almost a year and have had great success with them. I decided to try the app and my son hates it. It’s slow, it’s frustrating to figure out, it doesn’t save his progress so he has to start all over every time he opens the app. And I’m also not sure how it relates to the practice packs which we get in the mail. They do not seem match what we are learning on paper. App is too easy and books are much harder. We will find another way to learn to read.

06/30/2020, update: It’s working! Not only that, but it’s actually loading faster than it did before all the problems. I’m so glad to be able to use this on our iPad again. I’m still not crazy about the new format, but the kids enjoy it, and that’s more important because it keeps them wanting to come back and do more work. I really appreciate all the effort the developers put into resolving this issue. Great work, guys! And a special thanks to Jamie L. with subscriber support for handling handling all the complaints without losing their cool. —— 06/23/2020, update: The app is still not working, but I’m in communication with support, and they are making a genuine effort to resolve the issue. If they reach out to you, definitely respond. The more info they have to work with, the easier it will be to find a solution. FWIW, they seem to be just as frustrated as we are. The desktop version is functioning for us, so if you’re able to try that, at least you can keep working while they’re trying to fix things. —— I loved the original format with kids 3 and 4. I wasn’t crazy about the new format for #5 and 6, but the kids didn’t have a problem with it. But then the app stopped working. Nothing will load, and I can’t download anything. I contacted customer support and was told they’re aware of the problem and are working on it, but that was weeks ago. They should have either fixed it by now or let people know what’s going on. Very disappointing from what I thought was a great company.
